Manchester City cut Stevan Jovetic from Champions League squad to make room for Wilfried Bony

Manchester City have omitted Stevan Jovetic from their squad list for the knockout stages of the Champions League to make room for £25m signing Wilfried Bony.

Bony, a January signing from Swansea City, was named in City's 25-man list submitted to Uefa this week at the expense of Jovetic, who has played a minor role in Manuel Pellegrini's side this season.

While the decision to omit the Serbian will come as no great surprise, it will likely cast more doubt on the former Fiorentina star's long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

Juan Cuadrado, whom Chelsea signed from Jovetic's former club for a fee of £24m, has been added to the Blues squad along with youngster Isaiah Brown to fill the slots left by Andre Schurrle, Mohamed Salah and Lewis Baker, who left the club during the January transfer window.

Arsenal have also included Francis Coquelin and Gabriel Paulista on their list.

Elsewhere in Europe, Real Madrid have named 16-year-old starlet Martin Odegaard in their revised list.

The Norwegian sensation could become the youngest ever player to appear in the Champions League if he features against Schalke in their last 16 clash, surpassing the record held by former Chelsea defender Celestine Babayaro, who made his European bow for Anderlecht at the age of 16 years and 87 days.

Lucas Silva, signed from Brazilian champions Cruzeiro during the January window, also comes into the side.

Meanwhile, Fernando Torres has made Atletico Madrid's list following his sublime start to life back at the Vicente Calderon.
