Arsenal are reportedly one step closer to signing Barcelona winger Pedro after the star asked for a transfer from his current club.
The Gunners, who have a long-standing transfer relationship with Barcelona, were believed to be pursuing Pedro in the summer but the deal collapsed at the last minute. The 27-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the amount of game time he is getting at Camp Nou and will consider a move in January.
And according to Metro, as well as reports in Spain, the star has now asked for a transfer and Arsenal are in the front line to take him off Luis Enrique's hands.
While Arsene Wenger has been historically frugal with his transfer dealings the manager now has more money at his disposal, and took advantage over the last two summers as he broke the bank to purchase Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Pedro is believed to be worth around £25million and despite Theo Walcott coming back from injury Arsene Wenger has been criticised over a lack of depth in his attacking line-up on a number of occasions this season.
Having played at Barcelona since his youth career, the Spain international would offer depth to any side he chooses to join. His current deal with the Catalan giants runs out in 2015 and in June he insisted he wouldn't be rushed on a decision over his future.
"I don't know what's going to happen yet, I don't know anything," he said as he prepared to travel with Spain to the Brazil World Cup.
"I'm calm though, I'm at the World Cup and that's all that matters right now. When a decision has to be made, I'll speak with the club and we'll see what happens.
"Right now I'm only concentrating on the Spain squad and having a good World Cup. Whatever comes in the future, will come."
