Kane savours ‘great night’ after netting first Tottenham hat-trick

Harry Kane was left to reflect on a “great night” at White Hart Lane as his first career hat-trick led Tottenham to a 5-1 Europa League victory over Asteras Tripoli.

The England Under-21 striker not only scored his first treble for Spurs but ended the clash in goal after Hugo Lloris' late sending-off.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a dream stint in the net, as he immediately conceded a calamitous free-kick to gift the Greek side a consolation.

Nevertheless, the youngster was delighted with the big home win.

“It was an eventful night to say the least,” said 21-year-old Kane, who has six goals in five Europa League appearances this season.

“It was great to get my first professional hat-trick for Spurs and then stepping in goal, letting in the late free-kick was obviously one to forget.”

He added: “I actually fancied in goal myself to be honest!

“I hoped it would hit the wall and when it came wobbling at me I probably should have just kicked it away.

“Obviously I’m a bit disappointed and I felt bad for the defenders who had done well all night, and Hugo who was brilliant.

"In fairness I think I'll leave that to the keepers from now on, but it was a fun night and we as a team are very happy with the victory.”

Looking back on his three goals, the forward added: "The first was a sweet strike.

“When it left the foot I knew it had a chance and fortunately it came off the post and went in which is always nice.

"I thought it was good to get the second and third as well, extra goals when the team is dead on their feet and when we want to start killing off teams and getting the five goals was great."

Team-mate Erik Lamela threatened to steal the limelight from Kane with two awe-inspiring strikes of his own.

The Argentina forward brought the White Hart Lane crowd to their feet on the half-hour mark with a spellbinding 'rabona' strike from the edge of the box, and doubled his tally after the break with a fine volley.

Kane was pleased to see the Argentine get on the scoresheet, adding that the whole Spurs team are well aware of his technical quality.

"He's got that in the locker, I've seen him do it on the training ground," said the striker.

“It was unbelievable technique from him to be able to pull that off, and to even try that on the big stage.

“I think I’ll leave that to him, just like id’ leave the goalkeeping to Hugo!

“But I’m very happy for Erik for his two goals, they were both top finishes.”
