The Absa premiership got back underway in midweek after a six week break due to the 2015 African Cup of Nations, and it certainly did not disappoint with 22 goals scored across eight matches.
The first PSL matches of 2015 took place on Tuesday and saw Mamelodi Sundowns keep the pressure on league leaders Kaizer Chiefs with an impressive 4-1 thumping of Moroka Swallows.
Goals from Alje Schut, Teko Modise and a brace from Cuthbert Malajila handed the Brazilians their ninth with of the season and took them to 34 points from 18 games, 13 points adrift of the Amakhosi at the top of the pile. The loss for Swallows was their ninth of the season and sees them hovering one point above the relegation zone in 14th place with 19 points.
The two other games on Tuesday saw both Bidvest Wits and the University of Pretoria registering 2-1 wins over their opponents.
Goals from Atusaye Nyondo and Denver Mukumba saw Tuks beat Chippa United to move up to eighth on the table with 22 points while the Chilli Boys dropped to tenth place, also on 22 points but an inferior goal difference.
Goals from Thulani Hlatshwayo and Lemessa Fikru-Tefera saw Wits beat Maritzburg United as they moved up third on the table with 34 points while the Team of Choice dropped to seventh with 22 points.
Five matches took place on Wednesday, February 11, and dominated by draws as only Orlando Pirates registered a win.
Kermit Erasmus scored in the 91st minute to secure a 2-1 win for the Buccaneers over AmaZulu to lift them to fourth on the table with 29 points while Usuthu remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table with nine points.
Chiefs dropped their first points of 2015 after a goalless draw with Bloemfontein Celtic. Still, the Amakhosi are 13 points clear at the top of the table while Celtic sit in 11th place on 21 points.
Ajax Cape Town versus Polokwane City, as well as Platinum Stars versus Black Aces, ended in 1-1 draws.
Sipho Jembula scored in the dying seconds of the match for Polokwane to salvage a point against Ajax which leaves Rise and Shine in sixth place on the table with 25 points. Ajax are in fifth place on the table, also with 25 points but a superior goal difference.
Aubrey Ngoma scored late in the second half for Aces to cancel out Platinum Stars lead which leaves the Rustenburg club in the relegation zone with 18 points while Aces are in ninth place on 22 points.
The final match of midweek saw SuperSport United squander a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Free State Stars. Kingston Nkhatha and Thuso Phala opened the scoring early on for United before second half goals from Jurie Basie and Hendrik Somaeb saw the spoils shared.
SuperSport occupy 12th place on the table with 21 points while Stars are in 13th place with 19 points.
