Sam Allardyce has praised his West Ham side’s character after they came from a goal down to beat West Brom 2-1 at the Hawthorns.
The Hammers fell behind to a Craig Dawson header but goals from Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins meant the Irons travelled back to London with three points in the bag.
And while the Dudley-born boss was disappointed to see the east London side being so wasteful in the second half he was pleased to see his side hold on for victory.
Allardyce said: “We were a little disappointed with how we were in possession in the second half, but the sheer determination and desire to keep what we had was very good.
“I sensed that we weren’t playing quite as well in the second half as we were in last 35 minutes of the first period – where we were absolutely outstanding, so we had to change it up and snuff West Brom out and we did.
And the 60-year-old was proud of his side’s performance in front of goal in the first half as they bombarded the Baggies’ goal with shots.
Allardyce added: “I had the most surprising stat on my wall at half time, after such a poor start, for 30-35 minutes in the first half we had 7 shots on goal, and we never get that over 90 minutes let only 35 so that was really pleasing to see.
“So to come from a goal behind away from home and win, we have come over a real task here tonight.”
