Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez has reportedly chosen to move to Valencia over Manchester United during the upcoming January transfer window, according to Tutto Mercato web.

The Argentine midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer and the player even admitted that he was aware of the interest from the Manchester-based club.

The move never materialised in the summer, and recent reports revealed that Louis van Gaal is still interested in the player and watched him in their recent loss to Braga.

Apart from United, La Liga club Valencia was also interested in signing the player and following billionaire Peter Lim's takeover of the club, they can now compete with top European clubs, when it comes to players' fees and wages.

Perez, seems to have now decided that his future lies in Spain rather than in England and the Argentine has revealed that he would welcome the move to Valencia if the Spanish club can reach an agreement with his current employers Benfica.

"Of course I would go there [to Valencia]. It's a very important club in Europe. I have a contract with Benfica which runs until 2018. If Benfica and Valencia reach an agreement, I will terminate it in order to sign the new contract," Perez said, as quoted on tuttomercatoweb.

According to the Italian newspaper, the negotiations between the two clubs have concluded and Perez is now close to being announced as a Valencia player when the January transfer window opens.

This will come as a big blow to United, as they were big admirers of the player and were keen on making a move for him, along with his teammate and compatriot Nicolas Gaitan in the upcoming transfer window.
