A last-gasp Steven Whittaker strike stole a share of the spoils for Norwich at the iPro as Derby County missed the chance to temporarily move top of the Championship.
Steve McClaren’s men twice led through Johnny Russell and Chris Martin but the Canaries struck back twice to shock the high flying Rams.
The visitors created the best of the early chance with Gary Hooper, Bradley Johnson and Alexander Tettey all going close for Neil Adams’ men.
And they were left to rue their missed chances as moments before half time Russell opened the scoring for the Rams. The Scotsman collected Martin’s ball to finish past John Ruddy to give the hosts a half-time lead.
Six minutes into the second half, Cameron Jerome brought the Canaries level as he smashed home after meeting Jonny Howson’s low cross. Parity only lasted two minutes though as Carlos Cueller brought down Martin in the box, and the Scottish international brushed himself down to strike the penalty into the top left hand corner.
With time ticking away it seemed that the Rams would return to the summit for a couple of hours at least, but Steven Whittaker had other ideas as he struck a late leveller after meeting Russell Martin’s headed pass. Norwich pushed for a winner with both Lewis Grabban and Jerome missing late chances but both teams settled for a point in the final game before Christmas.
