The Football Association will take no action against Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini following claims he spat at Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.
The incident took place when Fellaini stooped to shout at the fallen Aguero after the Argentine appeared to have been fouled by the United midfielder in the penalty box during City's 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 2 November.
TV replays appeared to show some spit leaving Belgian's mouth during his tirade but the FA's disciplinary panel have ruled it was not intentional, with no further action to be taken.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal defended his player following his side's defeat.
"I have heard that it is a question on social media," Van Gaal said. "But already the RV has shown that he is shouting and sometimes when you shout there is a little bit of – what do you call? – saliva [that comes out] with it.
"I don't think he's a spitting figure."
Fellaini, who has started in United's last three Premier League games, hit back at claims he spat at Aguero, tweeting on Monday 3 November: "The press loves to invent the stories when there aren't any. Thanks the journalist."
