Tottenham 1-0 Partizan Belgrade: Spurs' win overshadowed by pitch invaders

Tottenham’s  1-0 win against Partizan Belgrade at White Hart Lane was overshadowed  by three pitch invasions, meaning the club is likely to face sanctions by UEFA.

The pitch invasions in the first half prompted the match officials to withdraw the players five minutes before half time.

But it was Benjamin Stambouli’s first goal for the club on the 49th minute which was enough to secure Tottenham’s position in the Europa League knockout stage with a game to spare.

The 24-year-old pounced on a loose ball inside the area to earn Mauricio Pochetino’s side all three points, after Roberto Soldado struck the post with an intelligent clip past the goalkeeper.

Spurs require a point against Besiktas in their final group match to ensure top spot in Group C.

Meanwhile, Celtic joined Spurs in the last-32 despite a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Salzburg at Parkhead.

The Hoops found themselves 2-0 down after 13 minutes when Brazilian striker Alan netted twice.

And, although the hosts halved the deficit on the half hour mark courtesy of Stefan Johansen’s drive, the visitors sealed all three points when Naby Keïta headed home in stoppage time.
