Hartlepool United 1-2 Blyth Spartans: Non-Leaguers book third round spot

Blyth Spartans' FA Cup fairytale continued as a last-gasp Jarrett Rivers strike booked their place in the third round

Blyth Spartans' FA Cup fairytale continued as a last-gasp Jarrett Rivers strike booked their place in the third round.

Jonathan Franks gave the League Two side a first half lead as he nodded into an empty net after Neil Austin had picked him out from the left.

But Spartans equalised spectacularly midway through the second half as Stephen Turnbull curled a beauty of a free-kick into the top corner.

And, just as the clock ticked around to 90 minutes, the travelling Green Army were sent into a frenzy as youngster Rivers collected the ball outside the box and burst into the area before firing past the diving Scott Flinders to send the seventh tiered side into the hat for the third round for the first time since 2008.
