West Indies earn draw despite James Anderson's record-breaking heroics

Jason Holder struck a brilliant maiden Test century to earn an unlikely draw against England on a day when James Anderson became his country’s all-time record Test wicket taker.

Anderson tempted Dinesh Ramdin into a loose shot in his fourth spell of the final session to take his tally to 383 in England tests, usurping Ian Botham’s 23-year record.

At that stage, England were in pole position to wrap up victory in the opening test with just three home wickets remaining, but Holder’s brilliant intervention meant the match ended in disappointment for the visitors.

Beginning the day on 98-2, England dominated the session before lunch, claiming three West Indian victims, including Anderson’s record equalling scalp of Marlon Samuels.

Ramdin and Holder stemmed the tide, however, surviving the England attack’s new-ball onslaught to record a century partnership.

Ramdin’s dismissal reignited England’s hopes of victory but a stoic display by Kemar Roach, who endured 55 balls for his 15, and Holder’s unbeaten 103 ensured the contest was tied.
