The Hornets went top of the Championship table on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 win over Brighton in the day’s early kick-off.
But they were forced to endure a nervous journey home, with their automatic promotion place depending on how Middlesbrough and Norwich fared in the 3pm kick-offs.
And after a run of all so nears, including a devastating play-off final defeat to Crystal Palace, this proved Watford’s year as their rivals both failed to win to spark wild celebrations on the team bus.
