John Terry has been every bit as good as Eden Hazard this season, according to former Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins.
Hazard was crowned the PFA Player of the Year on Sunday but Wilkins reckons his Blues teammate would also have been a worthy winner of the prestigious prize.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “Is there anybody else who could have been Player of the Year? Yes, John Terry, because has been absolutely outstanding. But we will always pick forward players because that is the exciting end of the pitch.”
With the Capital One Cup already in the cabinet, Chelsea need just six points from their final five Premier League games to clinch the title and a domestic double.
Wilkins believes their success has been built on an excellent defence, led by skipper Terry, and insists they fully deserve to top the table.
"They have been an outstanding side this year," he said.
"We talk about attacking play a lot and I applaud attacking play, but one of the reasons Chelsea have won [the title] so comfortably is the fact they defend as a group."
