Kaizer Chiefs thumped Polokwane City 4-1 in a league match at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday night to be crowned Absa Premiership champions for the 2014/15 season.

It was an exciting start to the game with Polokwane on the attack in the second minute through Rendani Ndou, but he saw his 14-yard shot from an acute angle on the right well-saved by Reyaad Pieterse.

Chiefs had their first attack three minutes later when a right-wing cross from Matthew Rusike found an unmarked George Lebese inside the box, but he headed over from ten yards out under no pressure.

Polokwane saw more of the ball after that, but were undone in the 27th minute after a brilliant ball from Willard Katsande saw Lebese through on goal – this time the attacking midfielder controlled well before firing home with aplomb.

Four minutes later the Amakhosi doubled their lead when a mistake by the Polokwane goalkeeper and defence at a free-kick into the box saw them unable to clear and Bernard Parker made the most of the error after tapping home from 12 yards out.

Polokwane were not discouraged by the scoreline and continued to push forward. They nearly pulled a goal back in the 38th minute, but Jabulani Maluleke saw his 30-yard free-kick tipped over the bar by Pieterse.

Neither side could add to the scoreline before the break.

It was an exhilarating start to the second 45 with Rusike grabbing his first goal of the game ten minutes after the restart after firing home a right-wing cross from Siphiwe Tshabalala to put Chiefs 3-0 up.

Polokwane were not going to go down without a fight and scored a goal of their own in the 57th minute thanks to superb 18-yard curling strike from Ndou which left Pieterse rooted to the spot.

The away side’s joy was short lived though as Rusike grabbed his second of the night after heading home a right-sided free-kick from Tshabalala.

Chiefs had numerous chances to add to the score, but failed to do so. Nonetheless, the Amakhosi walked away with the victory which handed them the league title.
