Former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Marc Bircham believes Chris Ramsey is an "excellent appointment" to manage the club until the end of the season.
Ramsey is expected to be announced as the Hoops’ new boss following Harry Redknapp’s resignation in February, and Bircham believes the 52-year-old deserves his chance to manage in the top-flight.
Speaking to Drivetime, Bircham said: “I’ve known Chris for years and he would be an excellent appointment for the club to take over for the rest of the season.
“He is a football man; he’s learned the ropes the hard way during schoolboy, youth team, development and first team football. He has worked his way up.
“He’s a lovely bloke, very knowledgeable, and hopefully he can get the lads on his side and keep the team in the division.”
And Bircham, who made more 150 appearances over a five-year spell at Loftus Road, believes the Hoops’ home form will be vital in their bid for Premier League survival.
“No one can tell, but if you get a football man in who is tactically aware and can get the lads on their side then you’ve got a great chance,” added Bircham.
“The thing we [QPR] have got going for us is our home form, if we can keep that going then that’s what will keep us in the division.
“If we can pick up a few results away from home then that should get us across the line hopefully.”
