Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey expresses frustration at being played out wide

Aaron Ramsey wants to play through the middle

Aaron Ramsey has revealed that he is looking for a way to force his way back into the middle of midfield, having been shunted to the wings for the last few games by Arsene Wenger.

The midfielder has been the standout player for the Gunners in the last few games, in spite of them failing to score a single goal in their last three matches at the Emirates. The midfielder went close to giving Arsenal the lead against Manchester United and slid in a delectable ball for Theo Walcott in the Gunners' 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Wenger rested Francis Coquelin against the Black Cats to allow Ramsey a place in midfield and the player excelled in all departments, making a good case for him to start in this position when the Gunners play Aston Villa in the finals of the FA Cup on 30 May.

The disappointment should come as a major worry for the north London club, with the midfielder recently being linked with a move to Barcelona, who are prepared to pay up to £50m for his services.

"I'm not hiding away from it, I want to be playing in the middle. I've had chats with the manager about it. I showed at Manchester United what I'm capable of doing when I go into the middle of the park," Ramsey said when asked about his favoured position.

"But the manager said he wants me do a job out there for the moment and obviously I'll do that for him. But I prefer to play in the middle.

"We have wingers on the bench, but he's still picking me out wide.

"Santi Cazorla is the one in my position. He's the one who plays alongside Francis Coquelin and tries to get forward. I am trying to get that back.

"I like to get the ball and drive the team forward. I'm not a No10, playing with my back to goal. I'll try to play between the lines now and again if the game demands that and we're pressing quite high. That can be a dangerous position to take up," he added.
