Chelsea are reportedly close to wrapping up the signing of Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Robert Green following the club's relegation from the Premier League.
According to the London Evening Standard, the Blues are confident of landing the England stopper, who will be a replacement for the outgoing Petr Cech.
The Czech Republic goalkeeper has been the number one for Chelsea since 2005, but this season he has been knocked of his perch by young Belgian Thibaut Courtois, who has made the number one jersey his own.
Jose Mourinho is reluctant to lose Cech, but the goalkeeper has made it clear that he does not fancy sitting on the bench for another season, and that he is looking to join a club that can offer him regular first-team football, and this has seen him being strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Czech international has revealed that he will make a decision on his future at the end of the season, but it is believed that Mourinho will be reluctant to sell to a direct rival in the Premier League despite stating that he will let the goalkeeper choose his next destination due to the loyalty and commitment shown by him in the last decade.
Green has been identified as an ideal replacement for the outgoing keeper and the report claims that a £2m deal should be completed sooner rather than later following the relegation of the west London club on Sunday, 10 May.
The England international has been one of the impressive performers for QPR, which earned him a recall to the Three Lions squad. He will be keen to stay in Roy Hodgson's sights and remain in the Premier League.
It is believed that the Loftus Road outfit will allow the stopper, who had claimed that he will stay with the Hoops if they remained in the Premier League, to move in the summer.
