Manchester United: Louis van Gaal allays fears regarding Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw injuries

Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wayne Rooney will be fit for Manchester United's clash against Arsenal next week.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has allayed fears regarding the injuries picked up by Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney following their win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, 9 May.

Shaw was the first to be taken off after he suffered a blow to the face from Palace midfielder James McArthur and was replaced by Jonny Evans in the 40th minute.

But the defender, who looked to be more than dazed, was taken to hospital and given the all-clear to fly back with the team to Manchester. The manager later revealed that he was substituted as a precaution.

"Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don't think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off," Van Gaal is quoted as saying by ESPNFC.

Rooney, on the other hand, looked to be struggling with an injury after a clash with a Palace player and despite coming out to train after the first-half, the England international was replaced by Radamel Falcao after the break.

It was first believed to be a thigh injury, but the manager has allayed those fears and confirmed that it was just a dead leg, and that the striker will be fit to face Arsenal next week at Old Trafford.

"Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play," the former Bayern Munich manager explained.

Apart from the above-mentioned duo, United also lost Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria ahead of the game due to illness and injury respectively.

"Robin van Persie has been forced to sit out Manchester United's Barclays Premier League match with Crystal Palace due to illness, while his teammate Angel Di Maria has also missed out because of injury," a statement on United's official site read.
