Arsenal remain interested in signing Germany winger Marco Reus after Arsene Wenger widened his scouting focus ahead of this summer’s transfer window to include attacking midfield.
Wenger’s main priority had been central midfield and central defence, as well possibility as goalkeeper, but he is also now monitoring players in the wide attacking midfield positions in which he had appeared so well resourced at the start of the season.
Marco Reus could give Arsenal another option on the wing
Reus could play across the three attacking positions in Wenger’s usual 4-2-3-1 and is regarded as one of the best young players in Europe.
Reus is a versatile player and has a good goalscoring record
The 25-year-old has an unusually high goalscoring ratio for a player in his position, with 53 goals in 11 games for Borussia Dortmund, and is a regular in Joachim Low’s Germany squad. He only missed last summer’s World Cup after suffering an ankle injury on the eve of the tournament.
Chelsea are also interested in Reus - a player Wenger has admired and been tracking for several years. Arsenal’s interest appeared to have cooled after the additions of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil but there is uncertainty over the futures both of Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott. Campbell also wants regular first-team football and could leave this summer.
Theo Walcott has been linked with a move away from Arsenal
