Spanish starlet Sergi Canos has backed his decision to leave the prolific Barcelona academy to join Liverpool in order to fulfil his dream to play for manager Brendan Rodgers's first team.
The 18-year-old forward moved to Liverpool's academy in summer 2013 after garnering a reputation as one of the biggest prospects to emerge from La Masia while also being a regular with the Spain youths teams.
Canos, who can play both as a winger and as a number nine, has since developed from the Liverpool under-18s and has established himself in the under-21 side.
During an interview with Catalan-based newspaper Sport, Canos spoke about his experience in England when asked about his decision to leave Barcelona. He said: "I thought it was the best decision."
"Liverpool offered me things that Barcelona couldn't. It was also important my family had the chance to come with me and that my little sister could study and learn English here. It was a dream to play for Barcelona and it was hard to leave my life there but I'm very happy about the decision I made and to be here in Liverpool."
However, the Spaniard admits the start to life in England was not as smooth as expected but now, though, he is completely settled.
"Now everything goes well, better than ever. I feel 100% adapted but the truth is it was hard to adapt. Now I feel myself again and I am happy," he said.
"I am very happy. There have been good times and less good times but thanks to God and to my family, the bad moments are over and I am very happy about how the things are currently going. Everything is different here. Not better or worse, just different. I think that's why I struggled to adapt."
Canos revealed Rodgers has already handed him many chances to train with the first team and he is looking forward to having the opportunity to make his debut.
He said: "We train with the first team a lot. That's one of the best things at Liverpool. We are very close to the first-team players and often train with them. You turn from watching them on the TV to beign able to train with them."
Asked whether he would like to stay at Liverpool or go back to the Camp Nou one day, he said: "Obviously at Anfield. It's what I decided one-and-a-half years ago and it is what I'm working for. I am looking for the dream [to play in the first team]. When I'm at Anfield, my hair stands on end over how the fans support Liverpool. If I feel like that from the stands, I do not want to imagine how the players feel on the ground. It's a unique feeling to live through a match at Anfield."
