Arsenal legend Alan Smith believes it shouldn’t come as a shock if the Gunners produce what has been dubbed a ‘miracle in Monaco’ on Tuesday night.
The north Londoners will have to overcome a two goal deficit against the French outfit to keep their Champions League hopes alive, following their dismal 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of their last-16 clash.
Social media has been abuzz with fans hoping for a against-the-odds comeback from their side, but Smith, who is no stranger to European glory having scored the winning goal in the club’s 1994 Cup Winners’ Cup triumph, says a side of Arsenal’s quality should have no problems, as long as they learn from their mistakes.
“It’s a long shot, the odds are heavily stacked against us, but it wouldn’t be a miracle if they go through, it would be a great achievement," the former Highbury hero told Drivetime.
“With the players in that Arsenal team, they’ve got plenty of experience in there, I think they’ve definitely got a chance.
"But they’ll have to be bang at it, we can’t have a repeat performance of the first leg.”
