Gareth Bale: Wales in a "great position" to qualify for Euro 2016

Gareth Bale believes Wales have put themselves in a 'great position' to qualify for Euro 2016 after they comfortably beat Israel 3-0 in a crunch clash in Haifa.

The Real Madrid man starred with two second-half goals, including a stunning free kick, and an assist for Aaron Ramsey’s opener as Chris Coleman’s men romped to victory.

The three points saw Wales leapfrog their opponents to top Group B and remain unbeaten in qualifying so far, and Bale thinks the victory could prove pivotal in their mission to reach the finals in France.

“We knew what a big game it was, it’s a top-of-the-table clash and we don’t often get to say that, and to come out on top is amazing,” said the 25-year-old.

“We’ve put ourselves in a great position. We’re only halfway there, there’s still a lot of games to go and anything can happen.”

Coleman described the contest as Wales’ biggest game since 2003 and while the Welsh controlled throughout the 90 minutes, they were helped by Israel being reduced to ten men for the last half an hour.

Coleman’s side now lead their group by two points from Israel and group favourites Belgium are lurking with games in hand, but Bale believes if they can retain their focus they will give themselves a great chance of qualification.

“All we can do is keep fighting, keep working hard and hopefully our performances and results can do the talking,” Bale added.

The victory means Wales have 11 points from their opening five games in their bid to reach their first major tournament since 1958.
