Controversial Palace penalty changed the game, Tottenham boss Pochettino admits

Mauricio Pochettino felt the controversial penalty awarded against his side sapped the energy out of his players and galvanised Palace to victory.

Benjamin Stambouli challenged clumsily with the visitors leading 1-0 at the time, and Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot to allow Dwight Gayle with the opportunity to draw level, from then Palace dominated and went on to win the game 2-1.

But Pochettino felt the decision was a wrong one but conceives that decisions go against you and that it is just football.

The Argentinean said: “The decision is a negative one for us; my players say it wasn’t a penalty but that is football, unlucky for us.

“I need to look at the game as a whole on the television but if it isn’t a penalty then it is an unfair result.

“[The Penalty] changed the game, changed the energy on the pitch and galvanised them, and then we went on to concede another goal which made it difficult to get back into the game.”
