Stoke City forward Jonathan Walters claimed a player would be “eating his supper through a straw” if they were to spit towards him.
The 31-year-old joined Drivetime on Thursday and offered his opinion on the incident involving Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.
Both players allegedly spat towards each other during the Red Devils 1-0 win at St James Park on Wednesday and have been charged by the Football Association as a result of their actions.
And Walters did not hold back in his verdict of the incident.
“As a player you take anything off the ball; pinches and kicks that are meant to wind you up,” Walters told talkSPORT. “Little things like that go on in any match.
“But spitting is pretty low. If it happened to me and someone spat at my face or towards me then I think he’d be eating his supper through a straw that night.
“I wouldn’t be that happy. It’s the lowest of the low.”
