Jonny Evans has denied spitting at Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse in the Premier League fixture at St James' Park on Wednesday night.
The first half incident overshadowed the Red Devils 1-0 victory, with an 89th minute Ashley Young goal the difference between the sides.
Evans and Cisse were both charged by the FA, but while Cisse accepted the charge and has been given a seven-match ban, Evans will be banned for six if found guilty.
An independent hearing into the case will be held on Friday night, with a decision expected on Saturday.
If found guilty, Evans will miss fixtures against Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea.
